History
Founded in 1992, Kütahya Dumlupınar University has rapidly developed and has become one of the leading educational institutions in our country today. The undergraduate program in Sports Education at our university began with the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, established within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on April 14, 1994. Following the decision published in the Official Gazette dated April 14, 1999, and numbered 23666, establishing the School of Physical Education and Sports at Kütahya Dumlupınar University, the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, previously under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was transferred to our school. Initially offered as first and second degree programs in 1994, the second degree program in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching was discontinued in 2001.
Along with the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, the Department of Coaching Education and the Department of Sports Management were also added to our school in 2003.
The decision to admit 30 students each to the Coaching Education and Sports Management Departments within our college in the 2003-2004 academic year was reviewed by the Executive Board of the Council of Higher Education on February 21, 2003, and deemed appropriate in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 2/h of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880.
Furthermore, it was decided that the Coaching Education and Sports Management Departments within our college would open their second degree programs in May 2006, admitting 30 students each in the 2006-2007 academic year. Our Recreation Department was established on May 5, 2010, and has been admitting students to both the first and second degree programs since that date.
According to List 1 in Decision No. 2504 on the Establishment of Institutes and Faculties Listed in Annex I and the Closure of Institutes and Higher Schools Listed in Annex II, published in the Official Gazette dated May 9, 2020, our Faculty of Sports Sciences has been established within Kütahya Dumlupınar University.
The tender for the construction of our new building on the Evliya Çelebi campus was held on September 25, 2017, and the contract was signed on November 24, 2017. The contract price is 15,891,000.00 TL excluding VAT. The project includes administrative and academic offices, a fitness center, a weightlifting hall, a gymnastics hall, a taekwondo-judo-karate room, a table tennis hall, a wrestling hall, a conference hall, a performance measurement laboratory, a computer laboratory, changing rooms, student classrooms, archive sections, material storage areas, and a shelter. Additionally, there are 2 indoor tennis courts, 2 outdoor tennis courts, and 1 outdoor beach volleyball court outside the building. The Faculty of Sports Sciences building, with a footprint of approximately 3500 m2 and a total indoor area of 11,620 m2, was moved to on December 21, 2020, and our educational activities are now conducted in the new building. Furthermore, our faculty has an indoor sports hall and swimming pool at the Evliya Çelebi campus, and a grass football field, athletics track, artificial turf field, and tennis court at the Germiyan campus.
